DMAT Members are intermittent employees of FEMA/Dept. of Homeland Security. When we are activated for a mission we are paid as federal employees. This past summer when we were activated for Hurricanes Charley and Jeanne and were paid. During training exercises, monthly meetings and work/maintenance sessions, we are volunteers and are not paid.
